North Shore Specialty and Emergency Hospital are proud to announce that we have achieved Level II Accreditation from the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) – an internationally recognised benchmark for excellence in emergency and critical care.

This milestone reflects the strength of our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) service, including our purpose-built ICU, robust clinical systems, and highly skilled veterinary and nursing teams delivering 24/7 patient care.

VECCS accreditation is awarded to hospitals that meet rigorous international standards across infrastructure, clinical capability, staffing, and governance, recognising facilities that consistently deliver high-level care to critically ill patients.

North Shore is now one of a small number of hospitals in Australia – and the only hospital in Sydney – currently holding Level II accreditation, reinforcing our position as a leading referral centre for emergency and critical care.

This achievement is the result of significant investment in our ICU capabilities, clinical governance, and multidisciplinary collaboration across Emergency, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Anaesthesia.

What this means for our referring veterinarians

  • Confidence in access to advanced critical care infrastructure and capability
  • Round-the-clock monitoring and specialist-led care for complex and unstable patients
  • A collaborative, referral-focused approach, supporting continuity of care for your clients and patients
  • We remain committed to working closely with our referring veterinary community and are incredibly proud of what this milestone represents for patient care across our network.
