Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
John graduated from the University of Sydney 1974 with BVSc (Hons). After a short period in private practice in Sydney he completed an internship in the US and began work at North Shore Veterinary Hospital on his return in 1977, becoming a partner shortly afterwards.
John completed a Masters in Veterinary Science in 1992. This was followed by extensive post-graduate training and study at both the University of Sydney and University of Florida to prepare for Fellowship examinations. Fellowship and Specialty in Small Animal Surgery was achieved in 1998.
John’s professional interests include all aspects of surgery, especially oncology and reconstructive procedures. He has developed a program for minimally invasive surgery using laparoscopy and interventional radiology to minimize pain and speed recovery in patients. John has performed a number of innovative and ground-breaking surgeries, some of which have been undertaken in conjunction with specialists from leading human hospitals.
John is involved in several mentoring programs for veterinarians and surgeons-in-training, and is a sought-after speaker for veterinary conferences. He is past president of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, and spent eight years on the board of the Veterinary Science Foundation at the University of Sydney, Surgical Chapter.
Away from work John enjoys travel, spending time with family- especially playing with his grandchildren, sports cars, and spending time at the beach. John’s pets are Taffy, the boisterous Welsh Springer Spaniel who loves running on the beach and chasing the ball into the surf, and Tammy the smoochy Burmese cat.
