What is a Veterinary Specialist?
A veterinary specialist has completed extensive training in a particular field, such as medicine, oncology, cardiology, or surgery. In addition to completing an undergraduate degree in veterinary science, specialists must also complete at least one year of an internship, and three years of residency training in their field. They must pass a rigorous set of examinations to then be eligible for registration as a specialist in their field with the Veterinary Practioners Board.
